Alyssum - Rosie ODay
The Alyssum Sweet Rosie ODay, 'Tpomoea purpurea', displays rose-pink blossoms on low, compact plants. This sweetly scented Alyssum is covered with tiny rose-pink flowers that form mini-rosettes. Sweet Rosie Odays bloom in late spring through first fall frost. The Alyssum blooms very quickly after seeding, usually in about 6 weeks. In climate zones 9 and 10, they can bloom all year. Sweet Rosie ODays prefers full sun or light shade and rich, well drained soils, but Alyssum is not too picky and can withstand poor soils also. Plant them after the last average frost date in the spring. In mild areas, seed can be sown in the fall for winter blooming. Grass - Pony Tails Plants do not get anymore graceful than Pony Tails. Pony Tails Grass has soft 8 inch plumes atop the plants. The flower heads appear in the summer. After sowing, flower heads will appear in 16 weeks. Pony Tails prefer full sun and well drained infertile soils. It is very drought tolerant, but even moisture produces the most flower heads. Plant in the spring, 3 weeks before the last average frost date. Spray the flowers with florist dye to create any color you want. This plant is used for a tall, grassy groundcover and looks very nice in clumps. |
