Bigleaf Periwinkle
It can be used on banks or in other rough locations provided soil is suitable. The Greater Periwinkles are an evergreen, creeping plant with long trailing or arching stems. This ornamental plant is fast growing. The plant is shrub-like and grows to 12" tall with trailing ascending stems; 1-3 feet long. The Bigleaf Periwinkle, Vinca major, is also known as Greater (rosy) Periwinkle, Big Perwinkle and Large Periwinkle. The leaves are shiny, bright-green and broad with a blunt base with hairy margins. The leaves are dark green and bigger than that of vinca minor. It is usually sold as an annual in zones 3-5 otherwise perennial. It flowers from April through frost. Cut it back hard in the spring to rid plants of discolored foliage and to enjoy new growth. The flowers are carried in the short, ascending stems. Lamium - White Nancy Plant in a well-drained soil and do not allow it to dry out. The short spiked white flowers make it a wonderful ground cover. 'White Nancy' will grow best in full sun, but will tolerate some afternoon shade in a moist area. With a plant height of 6" and a spread of 12-24", Lamium 'White Nancy' blooms from May to July. The Lamium 'White Nancy', Lamium maculatum, has beautiful oval, variegated silvery-white leaves with greenish margins. Use Lamium in hanging baskets, in mixed containers, trailing over walls or as an edger, but spread must be controlled.
