Hosta - Blue Angel
The Hosta Blue Angel, Hosta 'Blue Angel', has huge, heart-shaped blue-grey leaves and tall stems producing cream colored flowers. The cream flowers of this fast growing hosta bloom in mid-summer, however, hosta’s are not known for their flowers. Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage and Blue Angel is no exception. Blue Angel needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained spot and has excellent slug resistance. Scabiosa - Blue Diamonds The Scabiosa japonica 'Blue Diamonds’, also known as Pincushion Flower, is a dwarf selection that only reaches 6 inches tall. The wonderful lilac-blue flowers bloom from June to October. ‘Blue Diamonds’ is a reminiscent of a pincushion full of pins. With its green foliage, it has a plant spread of 12-18", and it is disease resistant. It is best to plant Scabiosa in full sun, with well-drained soil and should be watered regularly throughout the warmer months to increase its overall performance. Deadheading after the first bloom will encourage repeat bloom time. ‘Blue Diamonds’ is great for attracting butterflies and hummingbirds and does excellent in rock gardens. It will do excellent for front-of-the-border areas, with Coreopsis ‘Moonbeam', Dianthus 'Bath's Pink', in mass plantings or as cut flowers. |
