Alyssum - Oriental Nights
The Alyssum Sweet Oriental Nights, 'Lobularia maritima', displays tiny, rich, solid, deep purple flowers that make this low ground cover a delight. It is a wonderful annual ground cover. The Alyssum blooms all growing season. Nothing adds more to summer days than the frangrance of sweet Alyssum. The flowers are very small at 1/4 inch deep purple blooms that appear in clusters. They will continue to bloom until fall frost. In climate zones 9 and 10, they can bloom all year. Alyssum begin to bloom just 6 weeks after plantingSweet Oriental Nights prefers full sun or light shade and rich, well drained soils. Alyssum is not too picky and can withstand poor soils also.
