The Hetz Midget Arborvitae, Thuja occidentalis 'Hetz Midget', is a dense, slow growing evergreen that requires no shearing to maintain its naturally round, globe form. Being one of the smallest miniature landscape evergreens, with a very neat and tidy form, it can be used in a front row of layered foundation plantings or as an accent or border in perennial beds. The Hetz Midget can also make a great informal hedge. It has fine rich green foliage during the summer that takes on a purple cast in the winter months. This medium sized tree may achieve a height of 30 feet or more and an equal spread. The Texas Red Oak develops a rather typical shape and form for the species, with a dense rounded canopy. The Texas red oak may also be found as a multi-trunked specimen in the wild. They are moderately fast growing for a hard wood tree. The bark is thick with scaly ridges separated by deep, dark fissures.
