Bachelor Button - Black Magic

The Bachelor Button Black Magic, also known as Cornflower, has other admirable traits including drought tolerance. Plant in early spring, 1 to 2 weeks before the last frost. Bachelor Button will "naturalize" the seed that the plant drops. They will perform admirably in poor soils and they do well in dry soils. In warm climates, plant in summer to early fall for winter bloom. Black Magics bloom 10 to 12 weeks after seeding. The flower size ranges from 1/2 to 1 inch wide with a sky blue color. It readily comes back the next year to produce another crop of blue flowers. Remove spent flowers to extend the bloom season and increase the flower size. Bachelor Button prefers full sun but will withstand some shade. The Bachelor Button Black Magic, 'Centaurea cyanus', has a black (deep maroon) flower that will combine magically with 'Blue Boy' Bachelor Boby or tall Cosmos. ... more information

Tomato - First Lady ll In warm winter/hot summer areas, tomatoes can be planted in early fall for winter harvest. Tomatoes need at least 1 inch of water a week. The First Lady II is resistant to nematodes. The Tomato Pole First lady II, 'Lycopersicon Lycopersicum', is earlier, tastier, more disease resistant than Early Girl. Tomatoes are generally started inside. Soak to depth of 6 to 10 inches when watering. First Lady II is an intermediate tomato which means they continue to grow indefinitely until frost. Prune the intermediate tomatoes in order to keep a single stem. They may also be seeded outside after the last average frost date. They are crack resistant and are large for an early tomato. It is very hard to find a tomato that matures this quickly and tastes this good and have great disease resistance.
