Chanticleer Flowering Pear
The Callery Pear tree, Pyrus calleryana, 'callery X Aristocrat cultivar', is a tight, narrow, pyramidal, thornless, ornamental pear tree. Oval, glossy green leaves turn an attractive reddish purple in autumn. The growth habit is dense, narrowly pyramidal, and evenly branched with crisp glossy green foliage. This deciduous tree is a true 4-season tree with white flowers in early spring; shiny, dark green foliage in summer changes to long lasting, dramatic shades of red & purple in mid to late autumn. Some specimens appear almost columnar in habit. In winter the tight, narrow form is a refined silhouette in the landscape. It has a heavy abundance of single white flowers in the spring and outstanding reddish-orange to purple fall color. They are an excellent choice for a trouble-free, beautiful addition in any landscape situation. New growth shows a reddish tint. Callery Pear trees are very hardy and fast growing. ... more
Silverbell The Carolina Silverbell tree, Halesia carolina, also known as Mountain Silverbell, Snowdrop tree, and Oppossum Wood, is common and reaches its greatest size in the southern Appalachian Mountains where it is called mountain silverbell. This attractive shrub, or small tree, grows in moist soils along streams in the understory of hardwood forests. Fall color is chartreuse to yellow-brown. The white bell-shaped flowers and small size make it a desirable tree for landscaping. The seeds are eaten by squirrels and the flowers provide honey for bees. Silverbell trees exhibit pendulous bell-shaped white flowers in spring. Place in full sun to partial shade. |
