Coleus - Rainbow Blend

The Coleus Rainbow Blend, 'Coleus hybridus', is one of the best plants for adding masses of colorful foliage to shady areas. Great in north facing flower beds and around shade trees. It is also an excellent houseplant that will add color on those dreary winter days. The foliage colors are white, bronze, gold, copper, yellow, pink, red, and purple. Insignificant flower spikes appear in late summer. Coleus prefers shade but will withstand filtered sun. The Rainbow blend will perform in average garden soils and likes to be kept moist but not soggy. Coleus are very frost sensitive so plant after last average frost date. Pinch back plants to encourage fullness and pinch back flowers to encourage foliage. Rainbow Blends are great for pots and planters. ... more info

Monkshood The Monkshood, 'Aconitum napellus', is a wonderfully different perennial for your shade garden. Monkshood perform best in shade under trees or on the east or north side of a house. The flowers occur in clusters along tall spikes. Monkshood takes 2 to 3 years to bloom from seed. They will withstand sun, but they must be watered constantly. Monkshood requires soils that are high in organic matter and the soil must be moist, but not soggy. Plant in late fall or early spring. They are used for cut flowers and shade gardens. Note: All parts of the plant are poisonous, especially the roots.
