The Asarum American Ginger, 'Asarum canadense 'American Ginger', is a wonderful ground cover that is grown for its foliage rather than it's flower. It has a plant height of 6-8” and is extremely heat tolerant. The redish to green flower blooms on ‘American Ginger’ appear in early spring and continue into late spring. Most of the flowers are hidden by the heart-shaped leaves that are produced. The foliage is shinny at the surface and the leaf stem is hairy at the base. ‘American Ginger’ will do wonderful in rock gardens or as a border. Try mixing colors of other groundcovers with ‘American Ginger’ such as Ajuga ‘Chocolate Chip’ or Houttuynia ‘Chameleon’. ... more

 

Dianthus - Rubys Tuesday The Dianthus 'Rubys Tuesday', Dianthus Hybrid, has flowers that are a deep red carnation with a sweet fragrance. Their very compact habit and free blooming nature make the 'Ruby Tuesday' Dianthus a stand out both in container gardens and perennial borders. Dianthus needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon and humidity. These fragrant, spicy dove like flowers look wonderful as a border plant, rock gardens, along walks or paths, for edging and a definite in cottage gardens.
