Herb - Berggarten Sage
Berggarten Sage can be used in any recipe using Garden Sage. This plant is attractive to bees, butterflies and/or birds. Berggarten translates to mountain garden which is one of the gardening areas of a larger estate, Herrenhauser, in Hanover, Germany. The Sage, 'Salvia officinalis 'Berggarten', has broad gray leaves that grow great in herb planters and in a compact in garden. Berggarten Sage rarely blooms and this helps to extend the life of this short lived perennial. Berggarten Sage is a special selection of the common Garden Sage. The large oval leaves are a change from the narrow pointed leaves of Garden Sage, but the flavor is just as good or better. So water regularly and do not over water. Grown in full sun the plant develops a purplish cast. Plant in a full sun location. Trim often by taking three or four inches of new growth. Berggarten has average water needs.
