Hosta - August Moon
The Hosta ‘August Moon’, Hosta sieboldiana, has wide, heart-shaped gold colored foliage with slightly rippled margins, making it very striking. The white to pale lavender flowers bloom from July to August, however, Hosta’s are not known only for their flowers. With a plant height of 24” and a spread of 24-36”, Hosta’s provide bright color in shade with wonderful foliage. Hosta ‘Wide Brim’ needs to be planted in a full shade area in any moist, well-drained area. Spiderwort - Satin Doll The Spiderwort Satin Doll, 'Tradescantia andersoniana', has compact and upright green foliage with large pink flowers. With a plant height of 12-15” and a spread of 18-24”, it is one that should not be missed. The contrast of the flower color and foliage make it a definite eye catcher. Deadhead after the first flowering to prolong its blooming time. Tradescantia ‘Satin Doll’ should be planted in a sunny area, but will tolerate some morning shade, with well-drained soil. It will tolerate damp soil but should not be over watered. ‘Satin Doll’ mixes beautifully with wild and naturalistic woodlands, in any perennial bed or as a border plant and attracts butterflies.
