Juniper - Blue Forest

This evergreen shrub has a wide-spreading habit with a somewhat vase shape that grows 4' to 6' tall with a greater spread. These plants may also be utilized for background plantings in shrub beds or flower gardens, as specimen plants, in rock gardens or for topiary or espalier purposes. It is urban tolerant. The upright growing branches present the "look" of a miniature "blue forest". Junipers are used as ground covers, in foundation plantings, or as hedges, screens or windbreaks. Needs full sun, and once established, little maintenance is required. Looks great when planted above a boulder retaining wall. Junipers are important evergreens for landscape use due to their tolerance of unfavorable soil conditions, their hardiness and great variation in size, habit, color and growth rate. Blue Forest Juniper, Juniperus sabina 'Blue Forest', is a distinctive groundcover-type evergreen that has very attractive silvery-blue foliage. It has a medium texture and a slow growth rate. Chokeberry - Black Tolerant of wide range of soils. Spreads by root suckers to form colonies. Best fruit production occurs in full sun. It displays clusters of 5-petaled, white flowers in spring which are followed in early autumn by blackish purple, blueberry-sized fruits which usually do not persist into winter. The Black Chokeberry, Aronia melanocarpa 'black', is an open, upright, spreading, somewhat rounded but leggy, deciduous shrub which typically grows 3-6’ tall. Easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Attractive fall color and fruit give this shrub good ornamental value for a shrub border.
