Marigold - Eskimo
Plant in the spring after average last day of frost. The Eskimo Marigold begins to bloom in late spring and continues to bloom until first frost. Eskimo Marigolds are excellent for edging, in pots and containers and as a ground cover. Marigolds prefers rich organic soils. Pinch off faded flowers to encourage more blooms. The Marigold Eskimo, 'Tagetes erecta', is new and unique. The nice dark green foliage sets off the white flower color. The beautiful blooms are located at knee height on top of the plant. Lettuce - Butterhead Batavia Blonde The Lettuce Leaf Blonde, 'Lactuca sativa (Batavia Type)', is a Danish variety that has fringed blonde leaves, excellent flavor, and withstands heat without getting bitter. They are tasty, sweet, and they have nice texture. Lettuce likes light, fertile, moist, and well drained soils. Blonde is a very attractive ornamental with fringed, blonde leaves. Plant in early spring, 3 to 4 weeks before the average last frost date, and successive plantings thereafter every 3 weeks until 5 weeks before fall frost. They will grow in light shade. The Europeans consider Batavia lettuces to be one of the best tasting lettuces. Successive plantings can produce lettuce spring through fall. Lettuce grows well near cabbage, beets, carrots, chives, garlic, and onion. |
