Northern Red Oak

The form of this tree is rounded and the ascending, usually massive branches, tend to branch low to the ground. Northern Red Oak trees are used as a specimen tree and also for wildlife. New leaves have a reddish tinge in the spring. They will bear acorns in 10-12 years in the nursery. The Northern Red Oak tree, Quercus borealis, is known for its strength and brilliant fall color. It has moderate water requirements and has a moderate tolerance to salt and alkali soils. Fall colors are from yellow-brown to russet-red and bright red. Commercially valuable wood. American Elm It grows rapidly and it is widely adaptable. This deciduous tree provides birds and mammals with food from the fruit and the buds of this native tree. American Elm trees are used on lawns, shelterbelts, and as an ornamental. The American Elm tree, Ulmus americana, is the largest and most wide spread elm tree in the United States. This shade tree grows best on rich moist soils but will withstand less than optimum conditions. These Elm trees have a tall drooping crown growing above divided trunks which give the Ulmus americana a distictive vase-like appearance.
