Phlox - Coral Reef Mix

Coral Reef Phlox prefers full sun and the soil must be well drained. This plant is an outstanding annual for containers, bedding schemes, and for borders. The soil needs to be kept evenly moist. They like a lot of organic matter, so amend if necessary. Each flower is only 1 inch wide and is carrying dense clusters several inches wide. The spent flowers should be deadheaded to prolong blooming. The Coral Reef Mix offers endless variations of cream, buff, coral, pink, and salmon shades. The Phlox Coral Reef Mix, 'Phlox drummondii', produces bouquets of flowers with unique pastel shades all growing season. Corn - Country Gentleman Corn prefers a deep, rich well drained soil. The Corn Sweet Country Gentleman, 'Zea mays', was introduced in 1891. This sweet corn is also known as Shoe Peg corn. In the deep south, this can be as early as February. Harvest the ears when the husks are dark green and the silks are brown but not brittle. Corn is usually ready 3 weeks after silks appear. Plant in the spring, a week or two after the last spring frost or when the soil is warm. Successive plantings in two week intervals will produce a much longer cropping season. Named for a famous 19th century American agricultural magazine, Country Gentleman is an excellent old variety of corn for the home gardener, Plants are 6 to 7 feet tall and the ears are 8 inches long. It is very tasty to eat fresh and it is used for creamed corn.
