Prairie Mallows - Brillant
You'll love the long-flowering plants in your summer garden. This is an old-fashioned flower that everyone loves. It has generous blooms, flowering for weeks in midsummer; naturalizes easily. Slender and upright, the prairie mallow is not extravagantly showy, but it's pretty enough in sunny beds. They require partial shade. These 2 to 4 foot-tall bright red perennials bear showy spikes of 2-inch-wide blooms. Long blooming seasons makes this a favorite in a mixed perennial border. It has average water needs but don't overwater. Great cottage-garden plant that has the look of mini Hollyhocks, but not the dominating height or aggressive self-seeding. The Prairie Mallows Brillant, 'Sidalcea oregana', commonly called Prairie Mallow, resembles mini hollyhocks. ... more info
Geranium - Southcombe Double The Geranium Southcombe Double, 'Geranium oxonianum', displays fully double, pure pink blooms that sit atop bright green stems. There are only a few double-geraniums in cultivation and don't look like a Geranium at first glance. They do best in sun, but will tolerate some degree of shade. They are perfect in the perennial border and work well as a ground cover too. This plant would look wonderful in a pot on a sun-drenched porch and is also deer resistant. |
