Privet - Golden Vicary
Golden Vicary Privet prefers sun to partial shade; best appearance for leaf color is in full sun. This makes a handsome foil for darker green material planted in front. Tolerates dry soil and looks its best when not pruned. Use as a specimen shrub or small tree in a sunny spot to best display the golden foliage. Excellent plant for hedges or as a contrast plant in the landscape. This lovely golden-leafed privet grows 8-12 feet high by 6-8 feet wide and has a vase-like or oval shape. Upright stems are covered with bright golden leaves in full sun, light green in shade. It is valued for its golden leaves. Prefers a moist, well-drained soil. Golden Vicary Privet, Ligustrum x vicaryi, is a compact vase shaped shrub with long slender leaves that hold their golden color through the summer if grown in full sun. ... more info
Mock Orange - Sweet The summer foliage is dark green and quite free of pest and disease problems. Flowers are single, semi-double, or double and they vary in size. There is no color change in the fall. The Sweet Mock Orange, Philadephus coronarius, is a deciduous shrub. The bloom period is quite short, normally not more than 7 to 10 days. Some mock oranges are without fragrance. This name is probably derived from the fragrant white flowers resembling orange flowers that some species and cultivars of mock oranges have. It is possible that most mock oranges will suffer from occasional tip kill in zone 4 and quite often in zone 3. |
