Radish - Crimson Giant

Bigger radishes get pithy and hot. The Radish Crimson Giant, 'Raphanus sativus', is as big as an apple with the same great mild flavor and crunchy texture of other spring radishes. The flower pods are edible and they will grow in the shade. Radishes prefer loose, light soil with a fair amount of organic material. They can be grown inside if you have a big enough pot. Successive planting every 10 days will prolong the radish harvest. Plant in early spring as soon as soil temperatures rise above 40 degrees. This huge spring radish grows best during the cool periods of spring and fall. The Crimson Giant is mild flavored and is great eaten fresh, in salads, or in sandwiches. Harvest when the radish is 3 to 4 inches in diameter. ... more information

Pansy - Antique Shades The soft lovely colors make this pansy an easy choice for pansy lovers. Pansies bloom best during cool weather, this means spring in cool climates and fall and winter in warm climates. Antique Shades prefers full sun but they tolerate some light shade. Plant them in normal garden soils and fertilize lightly. They need to be well watered but not soggy. Plant in early spring, 2 to 4 weeks before last frost or in mid summer for fall bloom. In warm climates plant in late summer or early fall. The Pansy works well in locations where late fall and early spring color would be appropiate.
