Salvia - East Friesland

Salvia ‘East Friesland’ should be planted in full sun in a moist well-drained area. Blooms look wonderful next to Sedum ‘Matrona’, Achillea 'Coronation Gold' and Saliva ‘Snow Hill’. With its blue-green, lance-shaped aromatic foliage, it makes an attractive accent all summer long. It has a plant height of 18” and a spread of 18-24” and stays in excellent compact form. ‘East Friesland’ is a magnet for butterflies, bees and hummingbirds and is deer-resistant. It is hardy for container gardening and provides excellent cut flowers. To increase bloom time, it should be cut back after the first bloom. The Salvia ‘East Friesland’, Salvia nemorosa ‘Ostfriesland’, has glowing purple stems loaded with violet-purple flowers that bloom from June to October. ... additional information

 

Hollyhock - Nigra The Nigra Hollyhock, 'Alcea rosea', has large single, very dark maroon to almost black flowers. (The darkest flower in this family). The large blooms of 'Chater's Nigra Hollyhock' flower in the summer months. Although they are short lived, they reseed themselves. Alcea is a wonderful plant near the back of the border, working great along walls or fences. They are best planted in full sun in a well-drained area. The Hollyhock family is made up of a rather large group that exhibits tall stature (4-6') and is biennial in nature.
