Scabiosa - Isaac House Mix
The Scabiosa Pincushion Flower Isaac House Mix, 'Scabiosa caucasica', is a charming, traditional cottage garden beauty. The Isaac House Mix Scabiosa prefers full sun except in very hot summer climates where some light afternoon shade is recommended. The flowers are 3 to 4 inches wide and the outer frill of the petals is pink, white, and lavender blue while the center "pincushion" is white with pinkish pins. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date or 6 weeks before first fall frost. The blossoms appear as fragile as summer snowflakes but this is a tough, carefree, very hardy plant with few pests or diseases. Place these plants in well drained, rich, alkaline soil. The Pincushion Scabiosa blooms in early summer into the fall. The Scabiosa is an excellent cut flower, and they lend themselves to be used in formal flower borders and wildflower gardens. Pinch off faded flowers to encourage continued bloom. ... additional information
Sweet Pea - Perfume Delight They will bloom about 1 week longer than other sweet peas. They are used for cut flowers and for covering fences and walls if given the proper support. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. The flowers are slightly smaller, 3/4 to 1 inch flowers, than other annual sweet peas, but they are more heat resistant. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. The Sweet Pea Perfume Delight, 'Lathyrus odoratus', is a mixture of several colors of very fragrant sweet peas. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. The fragrance of these flowers will take you to times past. The flower colors are purple, red, rose, white, pink, blue, scarlet, cream, and salmon. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. |
