Sweet Bell Peppers - Super Heavyweight Blossom pruning will improve fruit size. Super Heavyweight is excellent for fresh eating or stuffing and one pepper feeds a crowd! They are excellent for salads, stuffing, and gourmet dishes. Plant in average garden soil with sufficient organic matter. Pinch off about 50% of the flowers. Transplant outside in the spring 3 to 4 weeks after last frost date. This is a pepper to brag about with some weighing in at 1/2 pound each. Pinch off early flowers to encourage plant growth. Note: To get a jump on the season transplant outside, use a walls-of-water or some black plastic to maintain and increase temperatures. The Sweet Bell Pepper Super Heavyweight, 'Capsicum annuum', is a very flavorful jumbo bell pepper that produces huge, blocky, thick-walled peppers. Peppers use quite a bit of water but prefer to be watered deeply and not too often. It is absolutely huge and absolutely sweet when allowed to ripen to a golden gold. |
