Shiso Perilla - Green aoshiso

Shiso Perilla have green leaves that resemble parsley except they have sharply serrated edges. It is called "ohba' at sushi bars, and it is an absolute must for herb gardeners. The Shiso is also an excellent container plant. Herbalists claim Shiso has antibiotic qualities and is the one reason it is used with sushi. Plant in the spring after the last average frost date. The Shiso Perilla Green (Aoshiso), 'Perella frutescens', is an intoxicating, flavorful herb that should be as popular as basil or cilantro. In salads, the leaves add a very unique flavor. Mix or sprinkle over cucumbers, cabbage, fish, soups, rice, and potato dishes. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. Plant this Sweet Pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. The sweet peas bloom in the spring and the duration of blooming depends on the weather. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Pastel Sunset is very early planting. They will generally bloom 3 to 5 weeks. In warm climates, plant in October through January for spring bloom. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. The 1 to 2 inch flowers are lightly fragrant.
