Spiraea - Little Princess

The Spiraea ‘Little Princess’, Spiraea japonica, is easily grown in average, medium wet, well-drained soil in full sun to part shade. Profuse pink flowers in small corymbs cover the arching stems of this plant in late spring. Flowers and leaves all appear on the same side of the arching branches. Narrow, dark blue-green foliage. It has no serious insect or disease problems, and is effective in borders, cottage gardens, foundation plantings, or hedges. “Little Princess” Spiraea cultivar is a dense, upright, compact, mounded deciduous shrub which typically grows to 2-4' tall with a similar spread. The Silver Pussy Willow, Salix chaenomeloides, is a handsome shrub with large red flower buds that develop into silky pink catkins. The plant prefers a sunny location and moist, well-drained soil. This easy-to-grow willow has 2-1/2- to 3-inch-long catkins that emerge in early spring from dark red buds. Reddish brown leaves mature to a dark blue green. At first silvery gray, the catkins take on a pink cast as they age.
