For zones 9-11, this plant can also be a perennial. This plant has an upright habit and can reach 3 foot in height. The leaves are a flushed purple with silver iridescence and dark purple underneath. The Strobilanthes Persian Shield, 'Strobilanthes dyerianus', is an Athens Select variety. Warmer temperatures enhance the leaf color. They are widely used in landscape beds or in mixed containers. Persian Shield performs best in partial shade, planted in well drained organic soil.
