Sweet Pea - Streamers
The Sweet Pea Streamers, 'Lathyrus odaratus', is a new blend with streaks of vibrant colors including blue, orange, chocolate and scarlet. They are like the streamers on a maypole which is a wonderful celebration of spring. Streamer is a "flake" type of flower with bold pattern of dark streaks of color on a light or white background. They make an excellent cut flower. A key element in successful growing of the Sweet Pea Melody Blend is very early planting. The sweet pea prefers deep, rich, fertile soil. Use lots of peat or compost for early spring planting. Plant this Sweet Pea in full sun, but in a cool a spot as possible. Position them away from winds and rotate locations from year to year to prevent sweet pea pests. In cold climates plant the seed in early spring, as soon as the soil can be worked. Mache - Corn - Salad - Big Seeded The Mache Corn Salad Big Seeded, 'Valerianella locusta', has the mildest flavor and softest texture of any salad green. The leaves are so tender they "Melt" in your mouth. This old garden green, enjoyed in the late stone age, contrasts nicely with sharp-flavored greens in salads and tastes delightful cooked quickly like spinach. Mache is a cool season annual. The dark green spoon-shaped leaves are gathered into a rosette. It is a very attractive plant in the garden. This vegetable grows to 1 inch in diameter, but it can be harvested at almost any size. In northern climate, plant in early spring as soon as the ground can be worked. In warm climates, plant in the fall for winter harvest. The soil should be fertile, moist, and well drained. This plant is also known as Lambs Lettuce or Rapunzel. Mache can be planted in containers. |
