Wiegela - Java Red
This compact, mounding shrub displays attractive red buds that open to deep pink blooms. This shrub is deciduous. It is a dwarf, only rarely exceeding four feet of height, making it at its biggest half the size of the majority of Weigelas. This plant is useful as a background planting, summer screen or in shrub borders. The Wiegela 'Java Red', Weigela florida 'Java Red', is one of the oldest Wiegelas. Due to its compact habit it is one of the least prone to ranginess when left unpruned, though some degree of ranginess seems inescapable even with a compact dwarf.
